After seven hour of bus ride from Kathmandu one will reach a place Pokhara near a lake which is a good place to start and end a trek because one will get many guest house, restaurant, trekking equipment shop and easy transportation.
UP AND DOWN
The ABC trek is usually 12 days round trip from pokhara. The Annapurna region is not an administrative region. The area is located in two zones- Gandaki and Dhaulagiri. The districts in the Annapurna region are Baglung, Kaski, Lamjung, Mustang and Myagdi. On an average one can travel up to six and seven hours per a day.
Historically the Annapurna peaks are among the world’s most dangerous mountains to climb as per figure from 1990 and after. Kangchenjunga has a higher fatality rate. Annapurna is a Sanskrit name that literally means Replete with food, but normally translated as goddess of the harvest. The Annapurna tracking region is easily accessible with just an hour or two away from pokhara .The Annapurna base camp trek can easily be done independently. It is possible to do this trek in all seasons but in the winter the base camp can sometimes be closed due to the snow level. In spring the huge forests are in full blooms which give the trek an extra appeal.
The Annapurna conservation Area Project (ACAP) aims to protect the region’s natural land and cultural heritage while ensuring sustainable benefits for local people. Anyone can do the ABC trek. The trails are safe; mountains are significant and the people are enthusiastic and cooperative.
There is no better time to visit this heaven on earth one can visit anytime.
